Deep Worship

The deep places of worship call us beyond surface-level praise to a place of deep surrender and intimacy with God. This level of worship is characterized by wholehearted devotion, where we give not only our words but our hearts and our lives, offering up our very best in reverence and selfless devotion. The woman with the alabaster box exemplifies this beautifully; she came to Jesus with an incredibly costly offering, a jar of pure nard perfume. In her act of breaking the jar and anointing Jesus, she poured out not just a precious substance, but her own deep devotion, humility, and recognition of who He was. Her worship was undignified, unreserved, and unashamed, as she knelt at Jesus' feet in a moment that reflected the sacrificial nature of true worship.

The cost of deep worship often requires us to give up what is valuable to us—our pride, our time, or even our most cherished possessions. The woman’s alabaster box represented significant wealth and perhaps her only valuable asset, yet she broke it willingly for the sake of honoring Jesus. This sacrifice shows us that genuine worship often requires personal cost, vulnerability, and humility. It is not about receiving but about giving lavishly to the One who is worthy. In this story, Jesus honors her offering, teaching us that the heart of worship is found in selfless adoration and sacrifice, and that true worship will always leave a lasting impact on our lives and those impacted by it.
